Sevierville, Tennessee is Dolly Parton’s hometown and the community is celebrating the 30th anniversary of her iconic statue, located in the heart of downtown, with a special exhibit all about the sculptor, the statue and the icon it represents.
The collection, on loan from the East Tennessee History Center, visually illustrates the time-line associated with the statue’s creation – from concept to completion. See the 10-inch wax over metal maquette used as a proposal for the statue, the autographed stool Dolly posed on during sculpting, and a 30” high study of the statue’s head, also in bronze. Banners detail the statue’s back-story – including why Sevier County residents wanted to honor Dolly and how local artist Jim Gray felt about being selected for the project.
Also on display, see autographed notes from Dolly Parton sent to accompany the exhibit and take a moment to pose just like the statue (guitar and all) and share your image on social media with #DollyInBronze.
The celebration continues in downtown Sevierville with Dolly inspired events all year long. Check back often as new events will be added. While in Sevierville, visit the statue at 125 Court Avenue Sevierville, Tennessee.
