Starring Danica McKellar—who played Winnie Cooper in the classic ABC series The Wonder Years—the new film is slated as part of Hallmark Channel’s 10th anniversary of its annual “Countdown to Christmas” movie bonanza. One of television’s most popular events, “Countdown to Christmas” airs holiday programming 24/7 from October 25 through New Year’s Day.

Billed by Hallmark Channel as “a must-see film, in a must-see place,” Christmas at Dollywood showcases Dolly Parton’s East Tennessee theme park. Filming in Tennessee began in August; the Dollywood portions film for several days in November after the park switches to its Christmas décor.

In the movie, Dolly plays herself, owner of Dollywood. McKellar plays Rachel Lewis, a single mom and event planer whose schedule abruptly opens up when a client cancels a year-end extravaganza. When Rachel learns there’s an opportunity to produce an event for the 30th anniversary of the award-winning Smoky Mountain Christmas festival at Dollywood, she leaves New York City and returns to her Appalachian mountain roots with nine-year-old daughter Ava in tow. While interviewing for the job she meets Luke Hakman (played by Niall Matter), a long-time Dollywood employee who sees the holiday production as key to becoming the park’s next General Manager. As the couple works together to pull off an event that will “wow” the boss (Dolly Parton), they also discover that love lurks in unexpected places at Dollywood!

In addition to working on this film together, Danica McKellar and Dolly Parton are both successful authors. McKellar has written six books, all dealing with mathematics; two of her books can be found in Dolly’s world-renowned Imagination Library, which she founded in 1996 to support childhood literacy.
