EXPLORING SEVIERVILLE'S HISTORIC SITES AND LANDMARKS
While most recognize Sevierville as the hometown of music legend Dolly Parton, this eastern Tennessee town also boasts a rich history spanning centuries. Established in 1794 in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains, Sevierville was named after John Sevier, Tennessee’s first governor and a Revolutionary War hero who served under George Washington. As the eighth oldest town in Tennessee, it offers a blend of early American heritage, architectural charm, and modern music history. Here’s a look at some of our must-see landmarks!

THE SEVIER COUNTY COURTHOUSE
Built in 1896, the Victorian-style Sevier County Courthouse is a striking
downtown landmark. Its iconic clock tower and locally crafted bricks — some
bearing the mark I D by African American artisan Isaac Dockery — tell the
story of the town’s early builders. The courthouse is the fifth iteration
since Sevierville’s founding and stands as a tribute to the families who shaped the community.
THE HARRISBURG COVERED BRIDGE
One of only four historic covered bridges in Tennessee, the Harrisburg
Covered Bridge has spanned the Little Pigeon River since 1875. Added to
the National Register of Historic Places in 1975, this 83-foot timber
truss bridge is still functional today. Its preservation, spearheaded
by the Daughters of the American Revolution and later renovations,
ensures its legacy endures for generations.

DOLLY PARTON STATUE
Perhaps the most beloved landmark in Sevierville is the statue of country
music star and philanthropist, Dolly Parton. Unveiled in 1987, this bronze
statue of a young Dolly with her guitar is a heartfelt tribute to Sevierville’s
most famous daughter. Sculpted by local artist Jim Gray, the statue represents
Dolly’s deep connection to her roots and her ongoing contributions to the community,
from healthcare initiatives to her Imagination Library.
