Hot Toddies To Keep You Warm From Sevierville, Tennessee
When the weather cools down it’s time to warm up what’s in your cup.
When breath hangs in the crisp air and snow flies over the Smoky Mountains, there’s nothing quite as comforting as snuggling in front of the fireplace with your hands wrapped around a warm mug.
Our local producers have come up with several lip-licking tasty hot toddy recipes that soothe the throat and the soul.
Our favorite place to enjoy any of these warm boozy sippers is snuggled in front of a fireplace in a cabin with a great view of Sevierville, Tennessee. Try it and we’re confident you’ll agree. Until your visit, try making one of these hot toddies at home to chase away those missing-the-mountain-views blues.
Apple Barn Winery’s Hot Spiced Cider
- 1 bottle of apple wine from Apple Barn Winery (such as Dry Apple or Orchard White)
- 1 bottle of apple juice or cider that is 100% pure with no sugar added
- 1/2 cup of honey
- 1/4 cup turbinado sugar
- Approx. 1/4 Tbsp. each of anise, nutmeg and cinnamon (to taste; Apple Barn Winery prefers more cinnamon than anise) *
Blend ingredients together in a crock pot or in a large pot on a stove top set to very low heat. Warm until steam rises from the surface and then maintain temperature while stirring occasionally for up to 20 minutes. Ladle into mugs and enjoy.
* Mulling spices, including a Warm Winter Wine mix, are available for sale at Apple Barn Winery and can be used in place of the suggested spices.


Hillside Winery’s Hot Spiced Wine
- 1 bottle of dry red wine from Hillside Winery (such as Barbera or Sangiovese)
- 1 bottle of cranberry juice that is 100% pure with no sugar added
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 Tbsp. each of cinnamon, clove, nutmeg and allspice (to taste) *
- 1/4 cup honey (optional) *
Blend ingredients together in a crock pot or in a large pot on a stove top set to very low heat. Warm until steam rises from the surface and then maintain temperature while stirring occasionally for up to 20 minutes. Ladle into mugs and enjoy.
* Crown Mulling spices, which are available for sale at Hillside Winery, can be substituted for the spices in this recipe and provide well-balanced flavors with enticing depth.
Ole Smoky Moonshine’s Ole Smoky Hot Toddy
- 2 oz. Ole Smoky® Apple Pie (70) Moonshine
- 3 oz. Spiced Tea
- 1/4 part Honey
- Fresh Lemon Wedge
Mix ingredients well while warm. Garnish with a lemon wedge.


Tennessee Legend Distillery Blackberry Hot Toddy
- 2 oz. Blackberry Whiskey (or shine)
- 2 tsp. Lemon Juice
- 2 tsp. Honey
- Hot water or Hot Tea
- Garnish with Lemon
Mix ingridients while warm
Junction 35 Yuletide Toddy
- Ingridients:
- 2 oz. J35 Cinnamon Whiskey
- 2 oz. Apple Cider
- 2 oz. Cranberry Apple Juice
- 1 orange wheel
- 1 Tbsp local Honey
- Extra wheel of orange for garnish
- Cinnamon Stick for garnish
Warm all of the ingredients EXCEPT the whiskey until hot, allow to come to a comfortable temperature and add the whiskey. Garnish with a wheel of orange and a cinnamon stick.
- For a large batch made in a slow cooker:
- Ingridients:
- 1 bottle Junction 35 Cinnamon Whiskey
- 64 oz bottle Apple Cider
- 64 oz bottle of Cranberry Apple Juice
- 4 fresh oranges, cut into wheels
- 1/2 cup local Honey
- 1 Large Orange, sliced into wheels for garnish
- Cinnamon Sticks for garnish
Set your slow cooker on high, add the Apple Cider, Cranberry Apple Juice, orange wheels and bring to a boil. Once it is boiling, turn the slow cooker to the warm function. Once the mixture has stopped boiling, add the honey and Junction 35 Cinnamon Whiskey, stir until honey is dissolved. Serve warm with a wheel of orange and cinnamon stick for garnish.
*This Yuletide Toddy is not available at Junction 35 Spirits Kitchen & Bar, as it is designed to be enjoyed at home, but they make a more traditional toddy in the restaurant upon request.


Shine Girl Toddy
- 6 oz of Hot Apple cider
- 1 1/2oz of Shine Girl rum
- 1/2 oz of Sour Mix
- 1/2-1 tablespoon of cider mix
Garnish with a cinnamon stick and orange slice
Old Tennessee Toddy
- ½ Cup of Old Tennessee Bourbon Cask Finished Honey
- 1 quart apple cider
- 1 ½ cups Dumplin Creek Apple Pie Moonshine
- 2 Cinnamon Sticks

Basic Hot Toddy
Hot water (to fill mug)
1 tea bag
2 oz. Sevierville-made spirit of your choice (such as Smith Creek Moonshine’s sweet tea ‘shine, Tennessee Legend’s cinnamon whiskey, or Thunder Road Distillery’s Butcher’s Bourbon)
1 Tbsp. honey
1 tsp. lemon juice
1 lemon slice
Pour hot water into mug and steep tea for 2-3 minutes. Remove tea bag and add honey, whiskey and lemon juice. Stir. Garnish with a lemon slice or whatever you prefer to put your own spin on the drink
