Winter Fun Indoors: Wilderness at the Smokies & Indoor Water Parks

Posted on January 7, 2026January 22, 2026

When the winter chill moves into the Great Smoky Mountains, the fun really starts heating up in Sevierville, TN. While our mountain views are world-famous, some of our best kept secrets are the massive indoor playgrounds where summer never ends.

If you’re looking for a way to keep the kids active, entertained, and (most importantly) warm, Sevierville is the ultimate winter destination. From splashing in Tennessee’s largest indoor waterpark to conquering high-flying trampoline courses, we have all the answers you need to waterpark fun this season.

Wilderness at the Smokies: Summer All Year Long

The crown jewel of winter entertainment is undoubtedly Wilderness at the Smokies. This resort is home to the Wild WaterDome, a 66,000 square foot indoor waterpark that stays a perfect 84 degrees regardless of the weather outside.

Thanks to its state of the art Foil Tech glass roof, you can actually catch some rays and maintain your tan in the middle of January!

  • The Wild WaterDome: Dive into the Great Wave wave pool or drift down the all-new Kaleidoscope Kavern Lazy River, which features immersive lighting and sounds inspired by the Smoky Mountains.
  • Thrills for Big Kids: Don’t miss the Ridge Runner, a three-story indoor water coaster, or the Storm Chaser, which drops riders into a dark funnel for a zero-gravity thrill.
  • Just for Little Ones: Smaller swimmers will love Washout Mountain, a multi-level play structure with tipping buckets and kid-sized slides.

Pro Tip: If you aren’t staying at the resort, check for daily “Day Passes” which are often available based on occupancy, allowing local visitors to join in the fun!

Adventure Forest: Dry Fun at Wilderness

If you need a break from the water, simply walk across the hall to Adventure Forest. This 25,000 square foot indoor family entertainment center is packed with high energy activities:

  • Tree Top Towers: A three story ropes course that challenges your balance high above the arcade floor.
  • Fury in the Forest: A multi-level, blacklight laser tag arena.
  • The Mega Arcade: With over 100 games, from classic skee ball to the latest VR adventures, there’s a prize for everyone.
  • Cloud Coaster: Experience the Rocky Top Glider, an indoor suspended coaster that zips you around the ceiling of the forest.

Where Can Kids Play Indoors in Sevierville?

Beyond the waterpark, Sevierville offers several other fantastic indoor options for burning off that winter energy.

Sevier Air Trampoline & Ninja Warrior Park

Located near Tanger Outlets, Sevier Air is 38,000 square feet of pure jumping joy. It features:

  • Advanced and junior Ninja Warrior courses.
  • A massive trampoline grid and a first of its kind 3 story net system.
  • Laser tag and a dedicated area for jumpers 6 and under.

XPERIA: Ocean Journey

For a change of pace, visit XPERIA at Tanger Outlets. This digital, immersive aquarium uses cutting edge technology to take you to the depths of the ocean without getting a drop of water on you, which is perfect for a quiet, educational, yet visually stunning indoor afternoon.

King Family Library: Lego Playspace

For a low key (and free!) indoor activity, the King Family Library in downtown Sevierville has a wonderful children’s section that includes a dedicated Lego playspace and interactive tablets to keep little minds busy.

Don’t let the winter weather keep you cooped up! Whether your kids want to conquer a water coaster at Wilderness at the Smokies or master their ninja skills at Sevier Air, Sevierville is packed with indoor adventures that make every winter day feel like a vacation.
